Vertical Horizons, an MIT Climate & Energy Prize Boston Finalist 2024.“With the surge in AI and electric vehicle technologies, there is a pressing need for efficient power converters that traditional silicon devices struggle to meet. Wide bandgap semiconductors such as GaN offer enhanced efficiency and reduced energy consumption in power devices. Vertical GaN devices, known for superior performance in high-power applications, are pivotal in this advancement. Vertical Horizons, a startup initiative, aims to pioneer vertical Gallium Nitride power devices for cutting-edge power electronics tailored to the demands of the AI era.” The team consists of 3 Ph.D. Researchers from MIT’s Palacios group, Jung-Han Sharon Hsia, Joshua Perozek, and Minsik Oh, work on the technical development of the vertical GaN technology. Cynthia Liao, an MBA student from MIT’s Sloan School of Management, is the commercial lead for this initiative. Credits to ChatGPT.
